Welcome to ‘blend at homes’ first blog

Where did this all start? I was born in Denmark, in a small village called…actually lets not go that far! Let’s forward a few years when Steve and Linda starting sourcing furniture for blend in 2013.

Steve and I had made some contacts in Copenhagen and Arhus for sourcing some furniture for blends first cafe in Harringay. Being the initial translator at first, it quickly turned into something more than that. I loved looking at the collection of vintage furniture from the 1960’s and 70’s, which reminded me so much of my grandmother who coincidentally lived close to Arhus. We had to go back on several visits to narrow down what we liked, and obviously we were drawn to the designer collections from Verner Panton to Hans Vegner.

Having worked in fashion retail for more than 20 years, I always had a passion and interest in interior design and creating spaces that with the blend of beautiful Danish design with the practicalities of living in London. While working full time, I eventually got into property development and started renovating properties in and around Harringay. It was hard work but something I always enjoyed.

I moved to London 18 years ago, but growing up in Denmark definitely influenced not appreciation for good design but also for what the Danes call creating “Hygge” at home. It’s a difficult word to translate but the closest English word is cosy. Unfortunately it’s more than that. Growing up in Denmark, you spend a lot of time indoors with family and friends. We are quite social. Creating “Hygge” at home isn’t just about lighting a few candles at home, but it’s also about making things comfortable for you and your guests. It may be having slippers available at home for your guests, to blankets and having the fire on, it’s about looking after yourself. Whether that’s reading a book or just having a glass of wine after work…no wonder Denmark has been voted happiest place in the world many times..we all like a drink! 😉

We’ve only just started blend at home but we are hoping to bring more beautiful homewares, and accessories for your home in the future. We will be sourcing not only from Scandinavia, but also from the rest of Europe focusing on product quality and helping to create “Hygge” in your home.
